Freight transport to Austria
Austria is close enough for a next day full load from western Romania. Vienna is also our most used alternative air freight gateway, with better long haul connections than Otopeni on many routes.
At around six hundred kilometres from Oradea to Vienna, Austria is one of the few European markets reachable within a single driving day. That makes it unusually flexible: a load collected in the morning can be delivered the following working day, which is fast enough for urgent replenishment without paying for air freight.
Austria is also a transit country for almost everything we send further west, so we run this corridor constantly and know where the delays actually occur. The Tauern and Brenner routes through the Alps carry seasonal restrictions and weather closures that can add a day, and the Austrian night driving and weekend bans are enforced strictly.

Customs and documentation
Austria is in the EU and Schengen, so road shipments move without customs or border formalities. The CMR and invoice are the only travelling documents for goods in free circulation.
Where Austria imposes real constraints is on the roads themselves. There is a night driving ban for heavy vehicles on many routes, a general weekend ban, and sector specific restrictions on Alpine transit corridors. These shape the achievable transit time more than the distance does, and we plan around them rather than discovering them.
Frequently asked questions
Can you deliver to Vienna next day?
From western Romania, usually yes for a full load collected in the morning. From Bucharest it is a two day run. Groupage takes longer, typically two to three days, because the load is consolidated before departure.
Why do you sometimes quote Vienna airport instead of Otopeni?
Because it is often a better routing. Vienna has more long haul frequencies and a wider carrier choice than Bucharest on several intercontinental lanes. For shipments out of western Romania the road leg to Vienna is short, and the total transit and cost can beat flying from Otopeni. We compare both when we quote air freight.
Do Alpine restrictions affect my shipment?
Only if the route crosses them, which happens for deliveries to Tyrol and for onward traffic to Italy through the Brenner. Sectoral bans restrict certain goods on certain corridors, and winter weather closes passes without notice. We route around the known restrictions and flag the weather risk when it is real.
