Freight transport to Italy
Italy is a two day run from western Romania and one of our densest groupage lanes. The industrial north is the bulk of the volume, but we deliver the length of the peninsula.
The Romania to Italy corridor carries a high share of subcontract manufacturing traffic: components going out, finished assemblies coming back, and a steady flow of textiles, furniture and machinery in both directions. Because the volume is two way, return capacity is usually available, which keeps rates on this lane more stable than on lanes where trucks run back empty.
Geography shapes the service. Milan, Bologna, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna are within two days and carry the great majority of the volume. South of Rome the distances stretch and groupage becomes noticeably slower, so for Naples, Bari or Sicily we will usually recommend either a full load or a realistic five to six day expectation rather than promising a northern transit time.

Customs and documentation
Italy is an EU member, so no customs formalities apply to goods in free circulation. The CMR and commercial invoice travel with the shipment and that is normally the extent of the paperwork.
Where Italy differs in practice is in delivery access. Many receivers are in historic town centres or industrial estates with tight access, and a standard thirteen and a half metre trailer simply cannot reach them. Tell us at quotation stage if the delivery address has access restrictions, because switching to a smaller vehicle after the fact is expensive.
Frequently asked questions
How long does groupage take to Italy?
To the industrial north, typically three to five days from collection. To Rome, four to six. South of Rome and to the islands, allow six to eight. A full load is considerably faster, at two days to Milan and two to three to Rome, because there is no cross docking and no intermediate stops.
Can you deliver to city centre addresses?
Often, but not with a full size trailer. Many Italian city centres restrict vehicle length and have time windows for deliveries. We can arrange a transfer to a smaller vehicle for the final leg, but it has to be planned and priced in advance rather than discovered by a driver at the address.
Do you handle return loads from Italy?
Yes, and this lane is one where return capacity is genuinely good. If you import components or finished goods from Italian suppliers we can run the return leg on the same account, which usually prices better than two separate one way movements.

Send the supplier city or port of loading, the volume and weight, and the date the goods are ready. We will come back with a landed cost and a realistic transit time, usually within one working day.
